losing a stripe

Post by AFPhil »

As I mentioned in my intro I'm a former squid and a current AF Reservist. I'm about to put on E-5. When I switch services what type of a pay reduction can I expect?

In '87 I transfered from the SCARNG to AD and changed MOS's. I went from E-4 to E-2 doing so. And went through OSUT again do to the MOS change.

An E-2 with a Ranger Tab????? Classic!
I wasn't tabbed in the Guard. I got tabbed in '88 when I was at BN as an E-3.

But I did know a couple of Tabbed E-2's in Bn. They dropped 2 notches from E-4 for pouchin'. And you talk about being "Hell on Wheels!" They damn sure where!

We did Graduate Honor Platoon and I was the Platoon Guide but it wasn't all that. One of my Drills was a Grenada Baby in 1st Bn. And when I went through School he was an RI in my Co out in Dugway.

Had you recieved your rank in a REAL SERVICE (just fucking around) 8) you would keep it.

I can't garauntee that with you getting it in the AF. The have no validation for their NCO's.

The Army has PLDC and the USMC has NCO school. A grade determination would come back in favor of these kinds of people.

I would count on being an E-4.

This is the current trend for grade determination waivers right now.

Thank you SFC Hit_it. I was expecting more along the lines of what Ranger AbnRgr289 went through. So this is good news.

If starting over from E-1 is neccessary then that's something I have to do. It's not right now I'm thinking about. It's 20 years down the road having earned had the career I wanted.

Realize that is was 1987 when I transfered over, that was 18 yrs ago. And it was from an ARNG Unit to Active Duty, not AF Reserve to Active Duty.

Back then going from Army Reserve to AD you only lost one grade. It has to do with the difference between The Gaurd and The Reserves.

The same rules do not so much apply as then did back then.

Now, an E-5 from the AR, NG or MC will more than likely keep his rank.

All personell below the rank of E-4 will keep it unless they are looking to go into an overstrentgh MOS.

People from the other services need to be prepared to get dropped down. Not saying it will definitely happen, but be prepared anyway.

The last I heard, if you are a reservist above E-4, you must hold that rank in the NG or RC for a minimum of 24 months or you will be dropped back to SPC.
