Boots for RIP?

What type of boots would be best for RIP? Also, what type of soles would you consider to be the best? Thanks a whole bunch!

The ones he got issued..they are broken in.

The Gods of RIP don't smile very favorably upon the RIPee who falls while under ruck, complaining of his feet, when said SM is wearing some strange, new, probably expensive boots which have chopped them to pieces.

Rgrpuck's recommendation of using the boots the Army gave ya is sound. They're well broken-in after having supported you through BCT, AIT, BAC, and whetever else you've gotten into. Your feet have developed an affinity for those boots. Don't deny them.

Alot of guys in my class bought jungles with the ripple soles before RIP and wore them on the road march and most of them fell out. The basic issued boots worked for me.

Probably best to go with issue, but if your rip holdover is long enough, you could get some nice jungle boots and break them in during those weeks. I had a long holdover, so i broke in some jungles and used them on the roadmarch. They were a couple pounds lighter and uninsulated like those boots they issue now, which helped. Whatever you do, make sure your boots are well broken in.

As a side note, when and if you get to Ranger Bat, you will be issued jungle boots. Break them in anyway you can before you start doing long movements.

Take a shower in them, throw them against the wall, do whatever you have to do because if you don't say hello to numerous blisters.

Soak them in water and wear them until they're dry. They now fit your feet exactly, but do this on the weekend or some other off time.

Ranger Slowpoke hit the nail on the head.

Thats the best way to break in new boots.

Soak them in scalding hot water untill it's cools down, then wear them untill they dry. Works every time.

Buy a new pair of jungles, don't take the tags off until the day of the 12mile road march. Put those babies on that morning, and you will be good as gold!
