Introduction

Post by Budro11 »

Hello, Im Jim. I am a former 11B E5.
I was in the Army from July 96 to August 02.
I served with the 1-26IN, and 35thID HQ.
I decided to take a break and go to college. I just graduated college and am going to OCS in November and will be returning to active duty as an Infantry officer.
The reason I decided to become an officer is because I constantly heard the other soldiers in my units always griping about our officers, but I never heard any of them talk about stepping up to solve the problem. Where I come from you dont open your mouth unless you can back up what you say. That and I hope that at this time of conflict, maybe I'll be able to make a difference and use my experience to bring a few more soldiers home than a "green" LT.

As an Infantry Officer Im sure I'll be attending Ranger School. I hope to be assigned to the 75th before I get too old to truely be able to enjoy the experience. A buddy of mine who was a Ranger put it the best way I've ever heard it. "The tab is just another school; the scroll is a way of life."

So thats me.

That's acceptable from a Ranger but it's going to bite your ass if haven't even been to the school.

What makes you so sure that the Army is going to branch you Infantry?

Sorry, I know you think I'm just fucking with you.

You sure do think a lot of yourself, I'm certain that you will breeze through Ranger School and, of course you will be a tremendous asset to the 75th.

Just a word of advice...pay more attention at Ranger School than you have reading our forums.
You have been lurking for hours and haven't learned a fucking thing.

Stick around 'til a DEP pms you and squares you away, if of course you don't feel it's beneath you.
And don't ever imply that there are any posers here again motherfucker, your last post in the lost and found was arrogant in the extreme.
Actually, so was your fucking intro.

Welcome to the site.

Oh, just one more thing...if your friend was a MOG Ranger, don't you fucking dare use this site to research him behind his back.
Consider that your first lesson in Rangering.
Asshole.
Until you successfully negotiate "just a school" and we verify it we will give you no fucking info whatsoever on fellow Rangers.

Now shut the fuck up.

A "Green LT" ain't bringing shit home except the boot print of his Platoon Sergeant (on his ass). If your friends were complaining about the officer corps then they should've taken an active role in developing young officers and not just whining. Answer a question for me high speed...Who is going to influence more junior officer's another junior officer or a seasoned non-commissioned officer? With that being said I am glad that you decided to "Step up" and save the Army.

Until you have been branched there is no way of you to know in what capacity you will serve the Army, so anything you have said this far is merely speculation. Service in the 75th Infantry Regiment is not guaranteed simply because you are prior service. You should immediately establish your 50 meter target and get after it. Ranger school might be a little tougher than what you are hearing.

What kind of fucking shit was this?

I have to agree with what everyone else said. you need a little adjustment of your demeanor before accepting your commission. being prior enlisted ain't gonna save your ass during OPD.

NOR IS IT GOING TO GIVE YOU INSTANT CREDIBILITY WITH NCO'S LIKE ME. I don't give a fuck what planet you were a private or specialist on, bring your integrity to the table and NCO's will make you shine.

FUCK US ONCE, and you'll be fucked throughout your command time. We make sure to turn politicos into staff pukes quick.

Now, with that being said, welcome to the site.

Budro,
Welcome and congratulations on getting your degree.

Now, who the hell do you think you are, stud? You don't have the first damn clue about officership and service to your Soldiers. My "green" lieutenants shouldered a responsibility you could not even begin to fathom and helped get all 165 of my Soldiers home. How did they do it? By acting as a team, listening to their NCOs, and being HUMBLE enough to realize that, regardless of their background, they still had plenty to learn. There are guys you'd call "green" downrange right now doing heroic deeds, saving lives, and coming home in the prone-inverted. Don't you run your mouth about how you're going to do a better job.

What, exactly did you do in the 26th Infantry and the 35th ID, anyway? I checked out their history for that period (click):

Plenty to be proud of, to be sure. But none of it seems to qualify you to save the world. By the time you get to your platoon, you're going to have Specialists wearing CIBs and 4 overseas service bars. Oh, and fellow lieutenants who've been downrange, too.

I'm sure the officers of that unit would love to hear your (and your buddies') assessment of their performance.

Being an arrogant prick is going to do more harm than good in an Infantry rifle company. Your own platoon is going to be pissed off that you've arrived to "fix all the problems;" your peers aren't going to want to work with you, since you're obviously above their level, and your CO is going to have to work extra hard to break you down like a shotgun (ooh, especially if he wasn't enlisted first, clearly not up to your standard), and I'd say you've already had a healthy dose of NCO perspective on your attitude. And really, how much experience do you really have? Were you a team leader at the time? A Bradley gunner? Something else? Any way you look at it, you're no Audie Murphy or Sam Damon. You've got just enough experience at shooting a rifle to free you up to learn more in another area.

Oh, and I wouldn't let on in your first unit that you're looking at them as a stepping stone toward moving on to the 75th. One more affirmation that they're not worthy of your calibur of leadership. Remember that the best unit in the Army is the one you're in. Service in the Ranger Regiment is a great goal, but make sure that you don't go quoting your buddy's tab and scroll soundbite too loud in your platoon CP.

If you were within arm's reach of me, I'd roll up a copy of FM 22-100 and beat you about the head and shoulders with it. You need to read it cover to cover. I hope this is a wakeup call and that in the future you'll display a little more humility. Humility is big, and you seem to be at zero balance.

But, really, best of luck.
