Get him a SURVIVAL KNIFE......the best FIGHTING knives come in calibers.

An old Randall Knife is good.

The best all around knife I have ever used is a Columbia River Knife and Tool product called the "First Strike". I don't think that they make it anymore, but you could probably find it on the interweb.

The thing is prectically indestructible. It's a beefy, no bullshit knife. I love it.

My buddy Ray swears by the Tom Brown Tracker, which is also sturdy as fuck, but it's pretty huge.

Gave one of these benchmades to my daughter's jarhead boy friend before he deployed to Iraq. Awesome knife to have for one handed ops, but not so good for a screwdriver....fuckwit broke the tip of the blade off trying to repair a radio. So is it for fighting or all around abuse in a combat zone? For all around abuse I'd use a bayonet either M4 or AK47.....if you don't have to wear it all day.

2X .... fix bayonets

2X Multi-Tool ... he will thank you. Besides, choosing a boot knife or a fighting knife is a very personal thing.

After going back and reading zumbii's intro thread...I am curious...where are you at now?
