Jungle School JOTC
Ok, all you young ones. who, on this BBS, has been to JOTC in Panama? I went in June of 1990.
Black Palm, 7 second frogs, howling monkeys, paratrooper ants, bushmaster snakes, humping up and down hills, getting stuck in the swamps, waterborne training, falling down alot, ferdelance snakes, prickly heat, using machetes to cut through the jungle, mines & booby traps classes, air assault ops training, five dolar hookers...all that.
Good times.

For the record, the intent is to keep our posts at an equivalent of PG-13. With that being said I don't feel that conversation about "Five Dollar Hookers" is appropriate.burn_out wrote:Ok, all you young ones. who, on this BBS, has been to JOTC in Panama? I went in June of 1990.

August 1968. Just before the President of the Republic Arias was deposed by the Guardia National.
Hookers? Impossible, it was illegal for a Panamanian citizen to be a prostitute.

Did it around March '87, then again in either late '88 or early '89, I'm hazy on the dates there. That was when all three battalions rotated through sequentially, sending a message that clearly wasn't received.
On that second trip I remember being in the hardest rainstorm of my life. It was raining so hard it was tough to see more than a few meters, we were breathing more mist than oxygen, and as we moved through the jungle the low areas were becoming lakes and streams. We moved to a road and in the open the rain felt like it was driving us into the ground.
Then we went back in December '89. Jump was lower and ruck was heavier that time.

December 82'......fun and fairly easy course.....mostly fun and very informative. The coveted "Banana Boat Badge" aka: "The Bolo Badge" at Battalion.
I had a piece of black palm in my finger for the next 11 months...which came out just prior to going down there the following year.
Good Times.
