SITREP-Nick

Post by letmeinplease »

Rangers,
I ship out tomorrow. I would like to personally thank you all for the amount of time that you have put into this website, and letting us all have such a vast resource to help us prepare. I have learned a lot from this website, and it was interesting to be able to see the paths of guys that were in my position not so long ago that are now rocking a Ranger scroll on their shoulder. I'll be sure to check in whenever I can, and also try to help out my other fellow mentee's as I am the first of our little group that will be shipping so hopefully I will be able to answer some of their questions and help them be more prepared than I ever could be. Thank you all again.

Rangers,
I am here sitting in airborne school with my blue cord. Its been a long journey, I expected basic to be easy since other people told me it was. It was definitely a lot more challenging than what I expected, and I feel like I earned those cross rifles and blue cord after that experience. Airborne is definitely a change of pace from what I got used to. Im about to start week 2, so far it has been a lot of fun. I'm trying to make sure I don't lose my discipline and military bearing here, since it is very easy to forget what the standards are when it is very relaxed here. I have been trying to figure out some good PT to do in my off time, i'm currently working a schedule out with some other option 40s that are here (any suggestions on what you would do in my position would be very appreciated). I also learned that my pt scores are a lot different when I'm not completely well rested and don't have a sympathetic grader. Currently my scores are at a 270:
Push: 50
Sit: 90
Run: 13:00
Thank you Rangers for the crazy amount of information. I am trying to pay it forward by giving advice and answering questions for the other mentees who still haven't shipped.

Ranger Jim,
We are starting Jump week on monday. From what I hear our RASP start date is May 30th but it might get pushed back again since it was originally May 20th. I have not met any other mentees here at Airborne.

Nick - Remember to have fun! Jump week is what you worked for...

It may be that your pick up date is May 30th. If that is the case you may have 1-2 weeks of hold over down at the Airborne school. Don't lose focus on your goal...Study and PT. That's all you need to do if you get stuck in holdover. I was lucky to get a Black Hat who made sure we did solid PT in the morning and cut us no slack as we waited for pickup...

Ranger Disinfertention,
If that ends up being the case one of my black hats belongs to the 75th and has been very helpful, and I bet he'd love the chance to smoke the shit out of me during that holdover time so I'm sure I will be able to make the best of it. The black hats however have said that bad weather might push jump week into the next so that might screw with anything they had scheduled for us option 40s here.

I don't think I have heard of them rolling over a jump week ever... as long as they got one jump in. Would be interested to know if they do that! Let us know.

Roger that Ranger Disinfertention, I had my first jump today and two tommorow so things are looking good, but I will update you all in the event something like that happens. First jump was easy, but I landed in a muddy creek and when I rolled over my suspension lines got tangled and covered my canopy release hatches so I ended up getting dragged for about 5 minutes as I tried to get under the damn lines to free myself. That wasn't very fun, will keep an eye out for that damn creek tommorow.

T-11 loves to drag folks... reach up pop one canopy release assembly... and if you're still being dragged pop the other while looking away. That second one is the one that will smack you in the face. :)

Rangers,
This is long overdue but I havent felt like I had anything worth posting yet. After 7 weeks of prerasp hell I am sitting here now having just completed cole range. We left on monday and got back at 0800 today. I swear I almost VWed when they brought out more mres for breakfast here at the barracks haha. So far so good, i'll post another update whenever i feel like there is something worth saying on here. We started with 153, were down to 39 now. Lots of heat cats in our class, so I'm hydrating 110% everyday to make sure I don't go down. I'm also making sure to continue guiding all of the mentees in the 5 mentees group in our discord chat by answering questions and giving advice. I got 12 points, one of the highest in our class since our average was around 8. I was going to have more but I got cocky on my last iteration and got stuck in the vegetation for hours when the sun went down which was dissapointing but it is what it is.
