Cdn Soldier,
Post what unit you're in, and I don't want to hear about any prior service in the Army Cadets.

With a country full of people like you, I sometimes wonder what any Canadian is proud of. You are a shining example of the reason I wouldn't ever want to be a Canadian soldier, and the reason I admire those who have the patience to do it. You're lucky the US is here so you can hide behind our leg. If we weren't, you'd feel the full effects of those anti-Western, self-loathing policies knuckleheads like you scream about. All war is wrong? By what moral standard? By my moral standard a war to protect my liberty when its threatened is the sublimest form of justice. People like you, with your dogma about the universal evil of war, haven't got a morality anyone on this earth can live by. I don't know where you get it, but its not from reality. Because in the real world, you can pray, wish, close your eyes, cross your fingers and sing Kumbaya till your blue in the face - but if it weren't for people like Catfish you'd have long ago vanished into some .'s Lubyanka or Dachau.

"War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." -- Mill

Thanks, Catfish, for your service and unforgiving attitude towards freedom's enemies.

A story as told to me by my father
while my father was an advisor in Vietnam, his counterpart was Cpt Ba. Ba's family had always been proffesionals, doctors lawyers, educators etc, etc. Well anyway Ba had 3 sons and a daughter, during the Tet offensive his ENTIRE family save him (b/c he was on a post at the time) were annihalted of course after his wife, daughter, sisters, mother in law were repeatedly raped and tortured. His 3 sons were tortured and mutilated. When I say entire family, I mean there was no living shred of his DNA after Tet save him. His entire family was gone. Who did this the fuckin NVA, not any Americans. So next time you go shooting your fucking mouth of mr spiker 33, read a fuckin book, and don't base your judgements on a few isolated incidents in our history.
Cpt. Ba is now in the United States after 4 yrs in a re-education camp. He lives in Texas and has kids that are in college or have graduated and he and my father get together once a year.

wholly shit i guess im a little bit late here heh... yes catfish i agree with you, our forces do not lack the training part one bit and you and your boys kicked some major ass over in a-stan... now if it came off as me bitching and whining that was not what was intended. i am doing something, i leave for basic training in less than 3 months, heading for the 8th Field Engineers for a year until, next summer I plan on enlisting into the reg force, same unit are yourself (3 PPCLI) here in edmonton, AB. My best friend is enlisting with me, into both units same plan as me, and my brother aswell shortly. Im hoping I will get the oppurtunity to go to jump school and mabye even us army ranger school.. but for now im focusing on the task at hand and not getting to far ahead of myself. i know alot of canadians who dont support our military, especially during the holiday season when we have boys overseas away from their families whether it be peacekeeping or not.. god damnit these people make me angry.. my family has an extensive military history and is quite understanding and supportive but the bs i hear from people at school and around edmonton is getting on my nerve "your gonna get shot in world war 3 or in iraq dumbass" *punches the wall* its good to see our forces active though lately in places such as a-stan and haiti, ect ect.. but just as long as you know im actually doing something and i dont really give a shit what people think or the state of our cf's im still enlisting like ive always wanted to.

btw are you currently stationed in weinwright?? (spelling?, sorry) haha you might have to pay me and my buddy a visit, looks like it will be my home for the next 2 summers.

hahahahha Shitfire is back boys, all you rangers didnt miss me now did ya? 8)

Spitfire,
Don't worry about your buddies comments about the army, they'll still be smokin dope and borrowing money from their parents when you go home to visit on leave, and are waiting to get posted to a Bn. You'll be jumping out of airplanes and rappelling out of helicopters, firing all sorts of weapons and travelling the country to train and the world on deployments while there still telling stories of how wasted they got on the weekend. As for your basic training in Wainright, make sure you're phisically fit and that you study the theory for your written tests, and master the drills and skills you'll learn practically, ensure you fully understand them and practice them, and help your buddies out all the time. Do well during your 6 monthes there, and a good standing in your course will open doors for you when you get to Bn - you'll stand a better chance to get your jump course, basic recce course, some other trade courses, and then with time in and good performance perhaps some leadership courses and the Ranger Course or Patrol Pathfinder.
If you decide you're not cut out for the infantry you can get out after your initial contract (3,4 years) is over. You're probably 17, 18 years old, so even if you get out you're still young enough to move on to something else, and you're time in the army will have made you a better man. Keep in mind the Canadian Army is a relatively small one and rank progression is alot slower than the American army, frustrating sometimes, but you'll be well trained and experienced.
I'm not posted or stationed in Wainright, and I'm quite busy right now ramping up for a deployment, good luck on your training.
