Ive searched for the other routes on these forums and cant find the other routes topic.

Im expected to sign this thursday the 23rd of June for a ship out date of the 24th of January 2012, thats the current wait my recruiter told me, i want to join in a hurry as well cause of financial issues and boredom. i am red/green colorblind (so a 68w is all i qualify for in the field jobs section) just like my brother who is in the 75th and graduated rasp in may; who joined WithOut a opt 40 last year.

My brother is stressing the importance of the opt 40 to me, he says wait as long as u have too, but i cant wait any longer because i got financial stuff (company ran out of work) and more importantly im bored as hell.

My bro does not know how common it is to get orders changed in AIT to rasp, he thinks he got extremely lucky, did he?

I can get a 300 on my PT test with honest to God ease, how likely is it they will accept my application to RASP and more importantly will they offer it to me in AIT or basic?

My recruiter says he will call the ROC tomorrow and thats the only call i can use for my account forvever, so im counting on the call tomorrow and MEPS thursday to try and get a opt 40.

Any and all Relevant advice and facts will be greatly appreciated!

Nonsense - your recruiter can call ROC anytime. He just wants you in, as do you so good luck.
Excel in basic/osut across the board, not just PT. Be the 'quiet professional'. Make your goals known to the staff at week 2 or 3, after you know if this 'army gig' is really your thing or not. They should ride you harder and you should rise to the occasion.
If you don't excel in basic, you aren't going to make it in RASP, opt.40 or not.
Just go and do your best at everything set before you.
And remember, the army is all about 'hurry up & wait'. You have a lot of boredom ahead of you so develop that 'zen' 'take it as it comes' attitude right now. You can't fight it so deal.

No point in wishing you luck, you'll make your own.

Stay motivated above all else! Don't let anyone or anything get in your way. It's like the "crabs in a barrel" analogy; while you try and make yourself the best candidate you can, you will hear a chorus of people trying to trip you up, and it will be from all sides. Fellow recruits will say, "That's bullshit, Yo! I coulda done that hard shit but I don't want to break my nails! Areal Bugsprayer-78 whiskey! Dats the shizzlle!.." Cadre who hold a grudge will tell you "They asked me to be in the Regiment, but my GT score was too high. They didn't want anyone smarter than the RCO so I got turned down.." They will try, but do not let them. Surround yourself with like minded people, but understand that easily 75% or more won't have the balls to apply for RASP(**), let alone finish. Be a sponge. Listen and learn everything you can. Fuck that "never volunteer" crap. When they ask for a volunteer you (and your compadres) should be fighting like dogs to get chosen first. You may be labeled an "ass kisser", but those who would say that never understood "100%, and then some..", and because you make them look like lazy shitbags.

Remember, stay motivated and keep trying! Until the RCO tells you to go fuck off, there is always a chance to get in. Believe me that it is well worth the effort.

(Edited to add: **You can reduce this number by a an additional two thirds for medics that will actually make it to the Regiment, but that can play in your favor. There will always be a need for medics and the attrition rate is high. They get the idea that working as an ambulance driver in a medical company is a better gig. Don't be that guy. If you qualify, then go for it.)

Yeah the color blind thing can suck when you're looking for ABN or Option 40. I wish you good luck and whatever you decide; just remember to go as hard as you can.

One more question. Let's say I don't sign the 68w without opt. 40, does my account get locked out? I think I remember my recruiter saying this. I just called another recruiter and he said he could call the ROC everyday for me.

My basic is co-ed at ft. Jackson, is this gonna hurt my chances of being noticed? Do you think there will be any scrolled drill instructors there?

If I do sign without a opt 40 a Ranger at 75th recruiting command told me he will personally work on my case once I get to Ft. Sam for AIT? Is this all the assurance I need?

Depends. How big are your tits?
The girls are simply irrelevant to your quest. Don't go getting hot on any before you achieve your goals. Hoping for a joint assignment with your new sweetheart will give you a very acceptable excuse for dropping your opt.40

Yes, but only if you excell, otherwise, don't waste his time. Like I said above, the rest is up to you. If you keep worrying over this, it will not bode well for your ability to assess and accept risk, which will result in you not being an acceptable risk for the Regiment.

Now go see that other recruiter. The one you're working with isn't interested enough in putting the work in for you - either that or he has already assessed you as a opt.40 failure. You decide.

There's really nothing more for you to ask along this line - just go get it done - and improve your workouts.

The EMT testing doesen't mean shit, except to get you through AIT. It has about as much to do with being a Ranger medic as high school drivers ed has to do with racing in NASCAR. You really won't learn your job until you finish SOMC and start applying what you have earned. All in good time, grasshopper, all in good time.

Also, you might want to keep a very tight lid on that info regarding your cousin. Let people find out on their own, or not at all. That is JUST the kind of thing that will earn you unwanted attention, and as Buzz says you don't want to give people a reason to think there was some home cookin' to get your slot. I'm sure your cousin will ensure you get a little bit of extra special PT love at some point.

I know this sounds odd, but if you want to do something that will really help you before you ship out, find a job that will get you used to working under very stressful conditions, like working in the kitchen of the busiest restaurant in your area or slinging boxes for UPS. In over 20 years of being in medicine I can tell you that the best people I have ever worked with have one thing in common; the ability to crisis manage well. That crap on the show "turd watch" or "grey's ball-sack" with people yelling and screaming over a patient doesent really happen. I had to learn (and am still learning) how to do it because it doesn't come naturally to me. A great way to learn it is slinging burgers during a lunch rush.

just gonna sign a 68w and be done with it, the wait for the army is approaching 6 months, walked out of MEPS thursday, Sergeants everywhere werent happy, one took me in the office chewing me out a little but by the end i had him laughing with some jokes and stories; no sense in burning bridges

Heres hoping the 75th will recruit me from AIT... if they dont i have no problem serving in a infantry unit till i get my chance for RASP.

can i apply for change of orders in basic and AIT or do i need to be recruited? or both?

At Ft Sam now waiting in reception for the next class to open up for 68w. Basic got changed I benning which I wanted anyhow. Did good and got the PT award and maxed all 3 PT tests. Still trying to get to rasp. Got to submit a packet to MSG Montgomery now, can I do this at reception or do I have to wait till I'm actually in AIT?
