lrs training course/schools

Post by loui_ludwig »

What are the schools does the soldiers from long rang surveillance units/detachments attends, besides airborne, ranger, pathfinder and long range surveillance leadership course.

In the Marine Corps, when a marine joins a recon unit, he goes to reconnaissance indocrination program, and after that the basic reconnaissance course.

What is the basic course/school for a soldier new to an lrs unit?

Key element leaders are expected to be "Victor" qualified.
Regular joes are usually sent to LRS after distinguishing themselves in an Airborne unit first.
Team leaders are expected to attend the Reconnaissance and Surveillance Leaders Course at 4RTB.
Prerequisites for RSLC are Ranger and /or SF qualification.
The unique thing about LRS is that they will occasionally accept a talented grunt or two if he's got what they're looking for and train him up and send him to RS.
This serves as a helpful reminder to the lower enlisted that they can be replaced if necessary.
