Never walk parallel to the obj. Its much more difficult to see someone coming to or away from you than it is side to side.

If you can't do it in your hole, then your hole is too small. #1 key factor for your hide: It's got to be comfortable. Never get out of your subsurface if you can help it. Obviously commo windows and recamo are exempt. Piss bottles and crapbags are a must.

To expand on Ranger MindRiot's observation... keep a low profile on a ridgeline or hillcrest. If possible, go around or avoid.
