Introduction- Option 40

Post by A2Fencer »

Hey everyone! My name is A, I’m 20 years old and I go to MEPS December 9/10. I had a different upbringing than most. I’ve been to 12 schools, 3 middle schools, 3 high schools, in 4 different states. I was not a military child just had a unique upbringing. I never got into sports because I was always the new kid and though I am athletic, I’m an introvert so I wasn’t accepted. Since high school I worked at a grease factory filling 40lb 120lb and 400lb barrels of grease and moving them onto pallets. I also did Valet for a casino. Then I went to college for a year, I remembered how much I despised school so I dropped out. Since then I’ve been a commercial and residential fence isntaller and learned a lot of handy man work (which I needed since my mom could never teach me this) and learned a lot about how far I can push myself. I’ve talked to a Marine recruiter 2 times and it didn’t feel right. A couple weeks ago I went to a Army recruiter and I feel blessed because I found a good recruiter. I told him I wanted to be infantry, took my ASVAB got a 74 and then Piecat (I’m butchering the name I think) and got a 113 for a GT. Funny to me because I finished high school with a 1.9GPA. He ended up offering me a option 40 contract and here I am today.

Currently, in 2 minutes I can do...

40 push-ups
60 sit-ups
3 pull ups
I do not know my 2 mile time but I used to run cross country. I bet I can hit 16 minutes

I’m 6’4 200lbs. I’m fairly skinny just have been eating good. My in shape weight is 175-185.

I get discouraged about my PT scores and I fear failing RASP. Regardless everyday I’ve been doing push-ups and sit-ups and long walks and light runs. I haven’t been going hard because my recruiter told me OSUT will get me ready for RASP.

I’m not sure what to expect with this post because it’s long and it’s not a question. Just throwing myself out there. I appreciate all feed back or just positive energy.

Welcome here Alex, knowledge is power so take some time to read everything here that you can.

As for your recruiter, he obviously never went to RASP because OSUT will not get you ready for it.

Look around here and get back with any questions.

Thank you Ranger IntelToad. I’ve crossed checked things from the information on this website with him, and quickly realized he doesn’t know a lot pertaining to this. I’m glad to be here.

Before MEPS my recruiter gave me a PiCat test and I scored high enough for an Option 40 contract so he slapped it on the table and I knew I couldn’t turn that down. Was looking to be regular infantry, I’ve never even heard of Airborne Rangers. My ultimate goal for the military was to attend the PSD training course because I want to be a bodyguard or security contractor. I know the chances of me being sent there as a regular infantry were slim, he told me Rangers get anything they want, and here I am. Everything fell on my lap and very quick but I had already quit my job and am ready for it mentally. I’m working on my body to catch up.

Your ultimate goal should be to serve in the premier light infantry raid force in the world. Everything after that will be a disappointment.

Yes sir I completely understand. I'm a lost, first generation military soldier but I have a lot to offer. I hope I didn't offend anyone, if I did I apologize. I have no idea what to expect from joining the military, I just have a plan in my head. But I am here for the journey. I want to serve in the premier light infantry raid force in the world, Ranger IntelToad.

Good evening Ranger,

I’m currently at the “MEPS Hotel”, waiting to be shipped tomorrow. I feel driven and ready to get after it. I don’t get the first day jitters anymore because I’ve had so many First Day at a new place moments. I’m just ready to get after it and submerge myself in this lifestyle. I’ve also got the Ranger Handbook with me so I can study in my downtime. I’ll update when I learn more.

Good afternoon Rangers, I just had a benchmark pt test here at Pre Rasp, my 4th pt test. I scored 62 push-ups, 72 sit-ups, and 12:26 2 mile. Also 9 chin ups. I’ve been here for a month and 2 weeks. When I first got here I scored 52 push-ups, 54 sit-ups, 12:20 2 mile and 7 chin ups. I’m still not scoring as high as I need to for being an 11b but I am making progress. The PT here is great. The meals are substantial. Next class starts September 7th and I’m hoping to max the APFT to hopefully earn my chance at RASP 1. Also my last 6 mile ruck 3 weeks ago Friday was 1 hour 6 minutes. I’m glad to be at Pre RASP but do not want to stay here. Next month I want to be at RASP. Only way to get there is to earn it.
