Introduction - Zakk

Postby zakk_l » June 9th, 2012, 5:41 pm

First I'd like to thanks all of you for both your service and for allowing us, as guests, to utilize this forum and it's many resources. My name is Zakk, I'm 20 years old and I'm a DEP 18X'er. My ship date is 20120703. 18X has been my goal for quite some time, went to college from 18-20 (Utah State) till I could take my entry option and jumped on it the first chance I got. Ship out in around 3 1/2 weeks and saying I'm pumped up would be quite the understatement.

I took a couple while I was in USU ROTC (non-contracted), my last score (self administered 2 days ago) was as follows.

PU: 54
SU: 81
Run: 12:46

My big killer is the push ups, been working on them around the clock but I feel like I've taken a harder, not smarter approach in trying to bang them out every day (I drop for sets of 50 several times a day). I'm trying a program now at hundredpushups.com to see if an every other day pushup routine would help my repetitions more. For situps, I'm still hitting these every day with flutter kicks thrown in. Ruck 3 times a week but I don't have a rucksack so I'm using the Army N-Guard backpack I picked up in ROTC weighing in at 40 pounds when I ruck. I know I definitely have a long way to go before I'm SOPC, much less SFAS ready but I'm gonna keep hitting it like a train until I'm there.

110 on the DLAB. My strongest skill, academically, is English and I'm learning Greek on Rosetta Stone now to get my mind used to other alphabets and grammar rules. My ASVAB AFQT was 89 with a GT of 123.

Greek is good. It will focus you on 10th SFG. Never, never quit!

Absolutely Ranger Jim, I'm absolutely sure everyone comes on here saying "I don't know the word quite" "That won't be me" "I'd never give up" and VW on Day 1. One of my Loves in life was wrestling, martial arts in general, but wrestling especially and never quitting is ingrained in us from the beginning. To quote my first coach "We don't need to cut people Zakk, we do the hardest workouts here and let them cut themselves."

I really appreciate the input Ranger Jim. Thanks for taking the time to post in my thread.
