Introduction- Chris

Postby neverquit_86 » November 23rd, 2011, 8:53 am

Hello Rangers,

Thanks to all the Veterans that served before me and to all the ones that still serve to this day!!!!!!

My name is Chris, I am a SGT in the US Army, February will be my 5th year on acitve duty. Glad to be accepted onto this site.

I requested to join this site for further knowledge and information on joining the elite team of Rangers. Currently I am slotted to attend Ranger School in April 2012. I also have been approved RASP, 75th is just waiting on me to give them a date. My huge question is what is a better move? I am planning on subsituting Ranger School for RASP. Joining the Regiment has been a dream of mine since I joined the Army, I just have not been given the chance until now. I feel I would be better qualified for Ranger School after attending RASP and being assigned to the Regiment for about a year or so. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome young Sergeant.

If you're planning on becoming a Ranger, the most important thing you can learn is ATTENTION TO DETAIL! I moved your Intro from the "Deps, other civilians" area to the "Rangers, VETERANS, etc" area since you are one.....Veteran that is. :D

Welcome.
There's plenty of information around the forums here on preparation for both RASP & RS.
Since you are a sergeant, my understanding is that you're going to RS and RASP both before you're assigned to a battalion.

You might be more comfortable waiting for RS but the regiment needs its NCOs to be fully functional. It's all "mind over matter", Regiment doesn't mind sending you & your comfort level doesn't matter.

Ranger Slowpoke, you are correct...I noticed that a little after I posted it.

Ranger K.Ingraham, I am not sure if I have to attend RS before reaching the BAT, but I have spoken to a few Soldiers and they say it would be helpful if I attend RASP then wait for the BAT to attend RS. I appreciate the wisdom, I always prefer "been there done that" advice.

Neverquit_86,

If you can only do either RASP or RS right now my advice would be to choose RASP. From my experience NCO's who graduated RIP (don't know if it changed since they configured the course into RASP) were sent straight to school upon graduation. However if that is not how it is now if you do graduate you'll go to Batt and if you don't quit and show your leadership that you will make a good Ranger leader you will eventually be sent to School.

Yeah, depending on your MOS. I believe combat arms NCO's will go straight to SURT and RS before arriving at batt., but support MOS's usually will go to batt. first. Either way, take the RASP slot over RS any day!

Ranger Tomsariot and Goon175..I think I am leaning towards that move. I have full confidence in my ability to prove myself in Batt to my leadership to be sent to RS.
