Howdy to all...

I am Treetop from Houston Texas.
I served starting in"78 in "A" Co, 2nd Battalion , 143rd Inf of the 36th Division.
We were the Airborne Guard unit that became "G" company Rangers later on.
I loved jumping, but was not motivated enough to go for a Ranger tab!
I Was honored to serve with many who did...

I have a question about a man claiming Ranger status,
and that is what brought me here, but that will wait for another day.

I'd really like to hear an explanation of how "A" Co, 2nd Battalion , 143rd Inf of the 36th Division became "G" Company Rangers "later on".

Simple enough.

I joined in Co "A" in 1978 to be airborne and was for a few years.
The company was re designated as "G" and the Ranger mission was added.
"G" was disbanded in 2005...
Now Texas has an Airborne unit again, and the lineage continues.
ARMY LOGIC is the only explanation that I have!

I am a little confused as well. Wasn't the 141st Inf (all three Bns) part of the 49th Armored Division (TXNG) when the Division was reactivated back around 73 until the division was redesignated as the 36th Inf Division (TXNG) around 2004? At least in the later 80s, the 141st was Mech Infantry. They came to Ft. Hood for their summer training and we (2AD) would be tasked to evaluate them. I never knew there was an official Ranger Company in the NG at any time. You learn something new every day.

Gco LRS disbanded in Sept 2001 after they "lost" their mission to the Goergia LRS unit. I know that they used to wear a scroll (think Vietnam LRRP/Old Scroll style) and a black beret, but I am unsure when they stopped. Perhaps KW Driver could add some clarification on that as he was in Gco before he headed off to 3rd Batt. As far as the 143rd lineage, it was carried on by 143rd LRS Det. down in Austin until we reflagged to C Trp, 3-124 Cav under the RSTA model. The new Airborne batt. that is being stood up in Tx., etc. is now the 143rd. I typed that up as clear and simple as possible. Hopefully that added more clarification than confusion to the mix.
