Our interest was in determining how the Soviet Army fought because we thought it was only a matter of time before we would be fighting you in Germany.

Thankfully, it never came to that.

We are all lucky that this never happen! It seems for me that you are some kind of colleague to our former and future President :D
He was KGB chief of station and US Green Berets and other NATO saboteurs were his prime headache :D

I once said in a briefing that we would be heading East in C-141's and our Soviet counterparts would be heading West in IL-76's. Perhaps over Poland we could have waved to each other. Soviet Airborne and Spetsnaz was a big intelligence gap for us in the mid 1980's- now we are on YouTube.

You are right! :D
If you have some free time, you may wanted to read book written by KGB defector, who worked in one room with Putin in East Germany

Okay, who can translate this for us?
The way in which a man accepts his fate and all the suffering it entails, the way in which he takes up his cross, gives him ample opportunity – even under the most difficult circumstances – to add a deeper meaning to his life.

Sorry! But for me this is too difficult...However,book is wonderfull! It showed that while Putin is no match to Bond He was higly successful intelligence operative aimed at illegal spionage: he served in East Germany for 5 years and was twice promoted. His last occupation was last KGB chief of station in Drezden...After reunion of Germany, unsurpisingly, our agents were expelled :))

What I see in these pictures to me proves that boys becoming men and soldiers are the same in all countries or at least most.

Thanks for posting these.

Interesting pics. Thanks for posting these. I read awhile back that within two decades, over 40% of Russian military personnel will be Muslim. I wonder how the Russian high command greets such an inevitability?
