Is Black Fleece jacket worn with BDUs?

Post by rgrokelley »

I am an instructor for a Junior ROTC unit in North Carolina. We are on the frontier, so changes to uniforms and such don't get filtered down to us too much. We still have to maintain the standards according to AR 670-1. Unfortunately the online AR 670-1 doesn't really cover this.

Can you wear the black fleece jacket with the BDU uniform, or is it strictly worn with ACUs?

Thanks,

The black fleece was released prior to the ACU. I have seen it worn (outer wear) with DCU's but not BDUs. But common sense tells me yes.

I have seen soldiers wearing it with BDU's in CONUS. So I'd say its authorized.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think on 30April the black fleece goes away with BDUs. There is a ugly puke green fleece I have seen being worn with the ACU.

As usual, we get rid of something useful and replace it with something shitty.

I received my first black fleece in 1998, WELL before ACU's came out. It is definitely worn with BDU's.

My understanding is that it is a piece of long underwear, and as such should be worn under the BDU top. Since it is so warm and fluffy it usually doesn't fit under the BDU top along with the rest of a normal human being's torso; erego it is frequently worn outside the BDU top where it is both more comfortable and more effective.

I hope that helps.
