intro from old Ranger
Hi all,
Hope I am doing this right. I went to RS class 2-74. I was assigned to Co C, 75th INF. This was pre Bat days and that was what my orders said. This Unit was later designated Co C (ABN-RNGR) 1st BN/29th INF. at Ft Benning. This is the same independent Ranger Company that then Capt. Robert Howard (Medal of Honor recipient) comanded before he left to go to the just started 2nd Bat. Now for a little known Ranger history. When I graduated from RS Oct of '74 there were three independent Ranger companies. I call our companies the "tweeners" We were after the lettered companies of Viet Nam and before the the Bats. A Co was at Ft Hood with the 1st Cav, B Co was at Ft Lewis, not sure what unit it was with and Co C was at Benning. Once the Bats started the other Companies were disbanned however we, Co C stayed at Benning. We primarly supported the RS as aggressors and many of our people ended up being instructors at RS. We wore the black beret with the 75th crest. I left active service in '76 and joined an ODA in 12th group (Active Army Reserves) Sorry for the long intro but, I get tired of the lack of knowledge about those State side independent Ranger companies

Re: intro from old Ranger
We likely crossed paths along some trail as I was in the Apr-June '76 class. You'd know me, I was the skinny one with real short hair.
There's several A & B Co Rangers here, so now you complete the set.
Welcome to the PB.
