I was an Echo in the Gaurd to start with. My old unit trasitioned over to Kilo while I was in basic going active.tnkr111 wrote:Ranger Airborne thanks.....Echo? That's some old school shit...but best tank ever in the defense...until the A-Deuce.
So instead of being a tank lizard, I ended up becoming a poncho lizard " Ranger Style!"

I can't forgive a combat arms officer passing up a perfectly good Ranger School slot.
Your 'political' excuse sucks.
Before you become defensive, junior officers are given such precious little time as an LT that EVERY leadership opportunity must be taken advantage of. The Army owed you platoon leadership time. That's the priveledge you earn upon AOBC completion. That platoon wasn't going anywhere, neither is this war.
If you think for one second that your platoon's lives were at stake if they were under the care of anyone else, a PL is not BII, more like AAL.;) The Army doesn't feel that your time as a platoon leader is absolutely essential for that platoon or your company, it is absolutely essential so that you can learn and develop into a deserving CPT.
You were probably the Johnny Rambo-est PL that's ever honchoed a tank platoon, but your reason for skipping Ranger School (in order to ensure your place in front of 5 other LT's for a platoon) is not what I'd classify as self-less.
Forgive me if I've misinterpretted your post. If my assessment is wrong I'll be happy to delete my post. Remember, when it comes to professional development, nothing's personal.:) Understand, I'm proud of you for your service to our country, as well as your combat experience. However, you owe it to your soldiers and the Army to gain as much experience as you can get.
As to your lost soldiers, may they RIP.
