The slugs performance shocks me a bit. I have seen one go through an unarmed man, 3 walls and through 3 more occupied apartments.

Here are the results. The 12 ga slug did about the same as the .45 and was beat by the 22 LR. BUT the 12gauge nearly knocked the table holding the target. Obviously, penetration and lethality are different animals. A kenetic pulse thing maybe.

There was no expansion of any round except the 12ga pumkin ball which deformed a little. Both the .44 and 9mm were hollow points and did not expand/ deform at all! :? I'd still take my chances with the .22LR over the 12ga. I haven't figured all this out ( way beyond me).

The medium that you shoot into has a great bearing on the penetration of various projectiles. When I used to teach LE Firearms classes, I'd have students shoot various caliber rounds into a car door and then into a ballistic vest (W/O plates).
The .22 and the 12 GA. Slug were almost always the winners for penetrating the door and the vest.
After the bombing of the Marine Barracks in Beirut, there was a lot of critisism of the Marine guards not having ammo in their M-16s. I was asked by a local TV station about my opinion, so I had them come to the range and I fired 20 rounds of .223 military ball ammo at a car door and only had 2 rounds penetrate.
