Re: Where is the Best BBQ?

It is not always the "where" but the "how" to BBQ or as we call it "braai". What I am going to say now is not to offend anybody. It is only an observation.I have met many Americans and for that matter Europeans, and there are only an handful that understands the secrets...

Commandos In Chains

It is indeed a sad day when politicians dictate how to conduct a war, which normally must be left for generals. :( Commandos In Chains May 1, 2009: Once again, Special Operations troops in Afghanistan have run into problems with ROE (Rules of Engagement). This time around, Czech commandos were recen...

Re: Military Books

I must say that there are many books you can reed on the subject of war. I have included only books on African wars and more specific southern African wars. Some books are better than others. Some books deal strictly with certain South African Army units and other with more than one unit at time. So...

The Persian Gulf Arms Race

I was just wondering, if by any chance , some radical ant-Western group takes over the UAE or for that matter for some reason somebody really offend the UEA, how will the West react if their own weapon systems are turned on them? The Persian Gulf Arms Race April 29, 2009: The UAE (United Arab Emirat...

Re: close calls

Maybe not a close call but at least one of my worst jumps. During one of our deployments we were stationed in South West Africa (Namibia) at a base called Rundo, about 10 km from the Angolan border. We were told that we are deploying with a 12 man team on a 7 day LRRP somewhere in Angola to achieve ...

Lighter Fighters Sent To Afghanistan

Sometimes you need to shed weight to be more efficient Lighter Fighters Sent To Afghanistan April 26, 2009: After several delays, some troops of the U.S. Army 4th Brigade will receive lighter personal equipment, before going to Afghanistan. New, and lighter boots, tools and body armor will lighten t...

I don't understand all the courses you are referring to but here is my humble opinion. My self being a pathfinder in the SADF underwent exactly the same training as the then SADF primary Reconnaissance Unit (The Recces) up to such an extend that we even participated in joint SF operations. But when ...

Most interesting. 1 liter of water is equal to 1 kg (2.2 lb).( I will never understand the imperial measuring system ) So 8 liters of water equals 8 kg (17.6 lb) The war we were involved in was much different (Angola). It was fought over very long distances with very little or no infrastructure like ...
