Re: Introduction - Tyler

Roger, Ranger Jim. I've begun reading the posts and will continue to do so. I need to be fully prepared for OSUT both mentally and physically so I'll have my best shot at an Airborne and/or RASP slot in OSUT, and that's what I'm focusing on 100%. I know nothing is guaranteed without an Option 40 con...

Re: Introduction - Tyler

Ranger Jim, It's been a while, and I haven't updated my situation like I said I would, so I apologize. I am officially a DEP with an 11X contract. During my first visit to MEPS my recruiter was able to reserve me an Opt 40, but I was disqualified for my prior shoulder surgery, so I had to send up a ...

Re: Introduction - Tyler

Rangers, It's been a while since I've posted here, but there has been some progress in my process to enlist. After some waiting, all of my medical paperwork has been sent in and approved, and I have an appointment to go to MEPS this Wednesday. I'm going hoping to acquire an 11X Opt 40, but I'll also...

Re: Introduction - Tyler

Rangers,

As promised, here are the results of yesterday's APFT. The push-ups and pull ups felt weak, but my run is getting back down close to 13 minutes, so I'm happy with the progress. Always lots of room to improve.

Push ups: 91
Sit ups: 96
Pull ups: 17
2 mile run: 13:23
Score: 294/300

Re: Introduction - Tyler

Ranger Jim, Just ran a 5 mile timed run with a time of 36:55. I'm taking a recovery day tomorrow to study for a few final exams, then I'll be completing an APFT Saturday morning, so I'll post the scores after. I'll actually be studying "Sustainable Energy Technologies" in Italy, Germany, a...

Re: Introduction - Tyler

Ranger Jim, Yes, I have memorized it for the most part, but I wont lie, it's tough to recite it out loud. I don't know it well enough yet to recite it all the way through without missing something or getting caught up. The "G" stanza is tough. I'll still continue to recite it until it's fl...

Re: Introduction - Tyler

Rangers, APFT Update: Pushups: 96 Sit-ups: 99 Pull-ups: 19 2 Mile Run: 13:56 Total score: 286/300 My push/pull/sit scores stayed about the same, but my run was almost an entire minute faster than my last test, so I'm happy with the progress for now. I'm still aiming to get back down to less than 13 ...

Re: Introduction - Tyler

Ranger Jim, Just got back from a spring break trip to Tennessee, where I did some hiking on the Appalachian Trail. Some of the views are incredible. As far as progress with my recruiter, there really hasn't been any. I've spoken to 3 different recruiters so far and basically what I've gathered is th...

Re: Introduction - Tyler

Ranger Jim, I talked to my recruiter the other day, and he said come June we could go ahead and begin the process. I'm anxious to finally get the ball rolling. In the meantime I'm going to keep focusing on improving my running. I'm not a naturally good runner but in the long run hard work always bea...

Re: Introduction - Tyler

Ranger Jim, I will look into that. I have researched it a bit now and it sounds like it's right down my alley, but the only problem is, I've read a few posts saying that sometimes combat engineers don't get involved much with DA stuff.. which, since the Ranger Regiment is the best DA unit our milita...

Thank you for the link, Ranger Jim. I'll look though it after my classes today. I briefly scanned through and it looks like some good information.

Re: Introduction - Tyler

Ranger IntelToad, Thanks for the welcome. I have looked into engineering programs in different branches, and several years ago I figured I'd end up joining as an officer in the Navy in an engineering field. That was before started learning about special operations and Rangers and I decided that I wa...
