Re: PTSD and how to talk to a Ranger Veteran

Pssht. Me beat up? Weak women don't date former Rangers! It would take a whole lot more for me to feel beat up! :) God! I came on this board to be prepared for whatever comes down the road with him. Maybe I'll find out that his PTSD is from a bad latrine incident. Who knows. My goal is to be there f...

Re: PTSD and how to talk to a Ranger Veteran

The dead HQ Ranger's mother put his framed Ranger School certificate, his uniform, and pictures around the urn with his ashes at his funeral. One of his Ranger buddies spoke at his service. So I'm convinced. He was briefly a member of this board so you guys were convinced too. I've known the 2nd Bat...

Re: PTSD and how to talk to a Ranger Veteran

Huh. Well...that's a lot to take in. To be fair, my 2nd Batt Ranger has said very little so far--and it wasn't to impress me but to warn me about him jumping out of bed (his close friend who has known us both since childhood warned me it was military related). Maybe he's wrong! That would be great!!...

Re: PTSD and how to talk to a Ranger Veteran

Here it is: I had one Ranger friend who passed away recently who was part of the Somalia mission. He served from 92-94. But, he told me what his nightmares were about shortly before he died. After his death I sat with a friend who knew more about his service and we figured out what he was dreaming a...

Re: PTSD and how to talk to a Ranger Veteran

Ok... So it's not possible for a Ranger in the 2-75 during those years to have witnessed something to cause PTSD? Is that what you're saying? I am not 100% on the dates I posted. True. We haven't been dating long. I am working on it. I do know that my Ranger friend who died had nightmares about some...

Re: PTSD and how to talk to a Ranger Veteran

I will try. Like I said before, he's not an internet guy. Or much of a typer. But I'll try. We women are wired to soothe pain any way we can. (well, at least most of us) It's frustrating to know that our men our suffering and we don't have the cure. If he has a nightmare when he's with me, I don't w...

Re: PTSD and how to talk to a Ranger Veteran

Welll...."jack shit" is/was my instinct. Just to listen, not to ask questions or say anyting patronizing or pretend I have the slightest idea. But some point, I have to say at least a sentence! The only thing I got out when my dead friend started talking was "I can't imagine...I...I.....

Re: PTSD and how to talk to a Ranger Veteran

I'm so thankful for the insight, everyone. I'm not looking to cure him or be a psychologist, I just want to say the right things so he'll trust me with sharing his experiences. I know in my heart that my friend John who passed away was looking for an outlet and came to me for comfort that last time ...

Re: PTSD and how to talk to a Ranger Veteran

His friend who set us up (we all went to school together) told me that he had service related issues...but didn't give me details. The friend was the one who used the term "combat" so that's what I've gone off of so far since he clams up right away at the mention of The Rangers. It's alarm...

Re: PTSD and how to talk to a Ranger Veteran

I just sent you a PM. Thanks for offering to help me. I don't have much to go off of here about his service and it's second hand. But I want to be prepared if and when he does want to talk. I'm not sure what the official definition of combat is, actually. To me, if you were out in the field and were...

Re: PTSD and how to talk to a Ranger Veteran

I will check out the book for sure. That's exactly the kind of resource I'm looking for. He was in the 2nd Battalion. But he's not an internet person...at all. He doesn't even have na email address. His job, social life--his entire world actually--is mano-a-mano...but I'll feel him out to see... I'm...

Re: PTSD and how to talk to a Ranger Veteran

He served from 93 until I think, 99. Not sure where because he's changed the subject the few times I brought it up (when talking about my friend who passed away) All he's given me so far is "I sometimes jump out of bed from PTSD" My response at the time was just a hug...which is why I'm he...

Re: PTSD and how to talk to a Ranger Veteran

Thanks so much for the link. I've found lots of useful information about PTSD but nothing really written by soldiers. I guess what I'm looking for is this: If you're a Ranger Combat Veteran and you're lying with your girl and mention that you have nightmares, what is the best thing she can say to yo...

Re: PTSD and how to talk to a Ranger Veteran

Thanks so much for replying. The guy I'm dating joined right after the situation in Somalia. My friend John who just died was part of the missions there. I'm learning everything I can about PTSD. However, both of my Rangers have the same demeanor, evasiveness, and silence about their service. I know...
