I use them for a constricting band when administering IV fluids. I think they are a little more durable than the Stretch Brand or other types of constricting bands since they are basically two ply. Plus, like you said, there is always an abundance of penrose drains laying around.

RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation)is your best bet, as long as you can bear weight on it. If you can't walk on it, you should go see a physician. He may be having problems with his cardiac sphincter, it's the ring of muscle at the bottom of the esophagus that holds everything in. I knew a guy that had the same problem and he had to have surgery to repair it. He was good to go after that.
