Selection?

Hi. Rangers I was wondering...This other day I was watching a BBC program on the British Parachute Brigade. One aspect of their training cycle is selection . And only if you pass selection, were you allow to continuing with jump training as well as advanced training. What is the situation with the r...

Re: Ranger Medics in Combat?

I want to make an observation. I agree with Ranger Snafu. Some medics, (we use to call them Operational Medics in the SADF), were the most humble, quiet professionals I've ever had the privilege to work with. Ops. Medics were all trained to be airborne. They went into all the hot zones, and saved ma...

From Golani to Kabul's killing fields

May he rest in peace Jun. 3, 2009 Friends and colleagues of an Israeli-American intelligence contractor killed in Afghanistan saw him laid to rest on Tuesday at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. Shawn Pine, a former US Army Ranger working as a contractor training Afghan army soldiers, was kil...

Re: What's your take on North Korea?

Without all the info, my observation is that it appears as if the new US Presedent was tested by the N Koreans and nothing was done. It appears as if the US Presedent is not willing to stand strong on this issue or other similar issues. That in turn gave Iran the “go-ahead” to do what ever they want...

Army post shuts down for anti-suicide event

Suicide is a real issue and it occurs in all the units in the Army's of the world. Not many choose to address the problem. Well done for the USA Army to at least recognizing and addressing the problem. Fort Campbell, home of the Army's 101st Airborne Division, is holding a three-day "suicide st...

SOCOM taking best troops (OP/ED)

A Loss You Can't Refuse May 22, 2009: In the U.S. Army, battalion and company commanders know that what makes their units work real well are a small percentage of their troops who are, well, really good, dependable and able to take care of things. Thus the commanders dread the annual visit by the SO...

Re: Mathematics of war

Yes I know you can “look outside the window” to understand the type of warfare the enemy army is conducting. I am a big fan of battlefield experience that lead to adjustment of tactics. So often army's learn lessons on the battlefield and do not adjust their tactics to compensate for shortcomings. ...

Re: Mathematics of war

I agree DrD. If I understand this video correctly, the formule they compiled can show-up in what phase the enemy army is i.e. a guerilla army or a more structured conventional type army. Once you know this information you can do all kinds of things, like adapting your own combat style to counter the...

Re: Best Ranger Competition 2009

Can any Ranger be so kind and explain the Insignia's on the left chest of the rangers ( as displaying on the photo in the article of the two winner). I can make out two, that of Pathfinder and Jump wings, but not the others.

Mathematics of war

Not the best place to post this. Maybe the mods. can open a "technical" part to post items like this. For those who are not afraid of Maths or statistics, here is a interesting video on the "predictability" of war. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emn28FrJ6CI" onclick="wi...
