LRS

Yes activation and de-activation of units and missions is an OPSEC thing. I still work for the U.S. Army and we have been told to quit talking about the things we are doing unless we get the OK from higher HQS. That is the primary reason I dropped the subject.

LRSD

Internet B.S., hide, wait, and be silent, you'll soon see what will happen. It may even suprise you. By the way if you're really that concerned all you have to do is to e-mail the LRSD CO or 1SG at RANGER school and ask them.

LRS

Can any of you LRS school trained people tell me if they still teach Visual Tracking in the LRS school. I was one of the 5 NCO's who wrote that manual in 1970 for the Army. It was an FM called 7-42, June 1973, Combat Tracker and Tracker Dog Training and Employment. It was then made an annex to the L...

LRRP's

The LRRP units from Vietnam all converted to RANGER companies in 1968. LRS is what LRRP/LRP used to be. Although we did run ambushes with 3 to 5 teams (team is 6 men) we were used mostly in the 25th INF DIV for recon. I have agood friend who was in LRRP's in 1966/67 on his first tour in Vietnam. His...

Listening devices

The old "Duffel Bag", that was the name of a device we started planting along well used trails in the HOBO WOODS. Looked somewhat like a personell mine. Used to pick up noise and send it to the rear. LRRP's and Trackers would put them out then notify S-2 where they were on the maps. They w...

SLOWPOKE, I agree, my old SGT was from the Korean conflict, he always told me "Take care of the little things and they can't grow into big ones" I have also always lived by that rule and it has served me well.

Don't forget that 1/2 the world is still triple canopy jungle, those drones can't see thru trees. Technology is great and should be used but don't forget those skills that got us here in the first place. During the late 80's and 90's Basic Combat Training (BCT)was replaced with Initial Entry Trainin...

RAVEN you may want to look into Para-Rescue, they are about as close to Special Forces or Rangers as you can get in the Air Force. My nephew is in there and from the sounds of it rescue is one of the last things they do. I can't say what all the schools he has been too because of OPSEC I'm told. But...

I agreee with CSM Purdy, even with all the high tech Hoooorah stuff available you need to know how to use H2h, Knife, Bayonet & Grenades. If you are in the situation to use these tools you only get ONE chance to do it right, there ain't no second place, only WIN or DEAD. YES I am an old timer, b...

SLOWPOKE as of this time I am not going to the re-union. I'm in Missouri, I'll wait until they have it at Ft. Benning again and we are picking up a new class and I have to teach that week. I teach soldiers how to do things. Nothing really exciting but the Army has really gotten strict in regards to ...

Age

Alright I'm 55, as my kids say "older than dirt." Sometimes it seems like everytime I get on this computer I lose another friend to the Great Spirt in the Sky. Happens when you hit the 50's. To the Air Force guy, I'd have to know your fathers name to know if I knew him. We've lost a number...

Yes, Steadfast the very same. I'd be glad to send you my number on PM if you need it. There's a whole bunch of us old timers over there. The 25th INF DIV LRRP/LRP, "F" Company, has a Web page also. I have always appreciated the RANGERS including us in their history, I'm really at a loss fo...

Intro

I do not consider myself a Ranger, but I was in the 25th INF DIV LRRP's 1966-1967 at Cu Chi Vietnam, I left that unit and went into the Combat Tracker Teams from 1967 until 1970. I just wanted to say "Hello" and see if there was anyone I knew on the board. In the LRSD FM there is an append...
