Good job. That is about what I have to do myself. Tape shows I need to loose 3 inches. The recruiter said that is about 9 pounds more or less. I have lost about 4-5 pounds. Probably really need to drop 15 pounds. As for the shin splints, did you get better shoes? I finally got shoes that really help...
