Re: Darby 8 Hour Pass Questions

Back in the day, the 8 hour pass was actually closer to 4 hours and you were confined to camp. That was back in '01 time frame though. I would think a good place to pick them up might be out there at Camp Rogers if they are actually letting them go. Just my .02 though

Re: M4/AR Swivels and Slings

My personal preference for my service M4 and my personal M4 was the front sling mount was somewhere close to the slip-ring but behind any lights or lasers. And yes, I used 550 cord to secure it. The back end of the sling was secured to the buffer tube via a rear sling clamp so that my butt-stock pos...

Re: Memorial Day

I'm not sure I've Earned This, I'm not sure I ever will.
The one thing I do know is that on this weekend, there will be much reflection on my time served, and even more reflection on my Brothers still serving and Brothers that will forever serve.

Re: RS....Summer or Winter??

If you time it right (or recycle enough), you can do both winter and summer. Me personally, I was a summer Ranger but I thought I was going to die in florida in august. It was fookin brutal with the heat and humidity.

No shit. My class had snickers bars too, that were washed down by peanut butter sandwiches that we had to first secure during a raid and then transport to the patrol base. (Had to love the last walk of some RI's).

Re: Less is more, and lessons lost?

My experience with the weight carrying kinda goes like this: when I first joined, we still carried rucks (45 lbs min) plus LCE (another 25-35 min, depending on weapon system). We dropped rucks when in "contact", shedding quite a bit of weight. Then we picked them up afterward, and unassed ...

I'm surprised no one mentioned that you could tel an Airborne Ranger by his boots-
cause they're shiny as glass and they're always kicking ass...

On my last deployment I tried to get shit burning re-instated for extra duty while out at our outpost, but I was shut down by the 1sg because it was cruel.

As as side note, some of my joes couldn't believe we actually did things like that during the invasion. Damn Kids.... :D

Any school your chain of command is willing to send you to is the best school you can go to at that time. They all will help you be a better, more rounded soldier.

Re: defendmichael.com

The guy that was killed might have been a bad guy, but he wasn't the guy Behenna thought he was. There is a lot more to the story than what is public , but the bottom line is, a jury of his peers judged him, found him guilty, and sentenced him. I could go on for days about this case, but the bottom ...

Re: How many times can you recycle.

When I went the unofficial rumor was that you could be there for up to 179 days- just short of 6 months, then you had to leave, and come back. It was something about anything over 179 days was considered a PCS move or some shit. worked out to be something like you could do each phase twice before yo...

Sniper has one. Don't know what it is off the top of my head. I would presume since sapper now gives you a tab you get some type of identifier as well. Don't know that one either if it exists.

Re: Volunteering for Deployment?

Volunteering for back to back trips with different units is do-able, but be aware that some units will not let you waive your dwell time. Especially if they know you just got back. Now if it's 10 months into dwell, that would be different.

Just some things to consider

I could have sworn that he was the CSM at Muskytuck or however the fuck you say it. I just saw a pic of him the other day in AUSA's mag or something similiar that said he was out there. Edwards was his name. Oh well.
